Top natural attractions in West Africa

Here we take you through some of the natural highlights of West Africa, from dramatic coastlines, to lush rain-forests that provide sanctuary to some of the world’s rarest animals. When you are ready to go, contact Brightsun Travel about West Africa flights deals all year round, and secure a holiday of a lifetime.

Côte d'Ivoire
Abidjan, the capital of the Ivory Coast, is surrounded by lagoons, forests and a gorgeous coastline that make it one of the most beautiful cities in Africa. The Parc du Bano in the northwest of the city is a rain-forest reserve with walking trails that wind around sacred trees and beautiful lakes. Alternatively, just a 45 minute drive from the city, is Grand Bassam, a fabulous beachside resort with World Heritage status, boasting tropical lagoons and picturesque sandy beaches. Venture further and you will find amazing National Parks, like the Parc National de Taï, one of West Africa’s tropical paradises.

Ghana
Ghana is a country of beautiful beaches, small remaining pockets of African rain-forest and historical coastal towns. Fly into Accra, Ghana’s capital city, and you could take a road trip to the coastal towns of Cape Coast and Elmina, and explore World Heritage forts and castles. And just over 30 kilometres north of Cape Coast and Elima is Kakum National Park, Ghana’s first protected area, and uniquely one of only 3 locations in Africa with a canopy walkway. From the walkway you might be lucky enough to spot wild forest elephants and rare animals, like forest cats and buffalo.

Nigeria
For nature lovers, Lagos, Nigeria’s capital city, is the perfect base to explore Nigeria’s conservation centres and National Parks, that provide sanctuary to wild elephants and important natural landscapes. Not far from Lagos you'll find the Lekki Conservation Centre that houses important wetlands. And when you are ready to venture further, the Yankari National Park - even though it has been hit hard by poaching - contains a healthy population of wild elephants that are attracted by its Gaji River. Here you will also find the Wikki Warm Springs, natural mineral springs in the heart of the park, and a must-see in Nigeria.
